Obama to speak in Reno Sunday

The Reno Gazette Journal is reporting that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will appear in Reno on Sunday.

Obama, the junior U.S. senator from Illinois, is scheduled to appear at a town hall meeting in front of a few hundred area residents with tickets to the event.

The appearance is Obama's first to northern Nevada since U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) conceded the nomination, the paper reports. Clinton appeared last weekend in Henderson on Obama's behalf.

A recent poll shows Obama trailing presumptive Republican nominee, U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) by a small margin in the Silver State.

Hillary in Henderson: Get behind Barack

Speaking at a Henderson High School Friday, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), a one-time primary rival to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama (D-Ill.), told Nevada Democrats to throw their support behind Obama.

During a rally to kick-off a weekend voter registration drive, Clinton told the crowd at Green Valley High School that Obama's interests and positions were very much the same as hers.

"We may have started on two separate paths, but we are on one journey now," Clinton said. "Sen. Obama needs all of us."

Clinton took the Nevada caucus from Obama in January, but has since become a strong supporter of the Illinois U.S. senator since conceding the nomination in May. Obama and U.S. Sen. John McCain -- the presumptive Republican nominee -- are locked in a tight battle for the Silver State, which has traditionally gone to the GOP.

Hillary Clinton to campaign for Obama in Henderson Friday

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) will campaign at a Henderson high school Friday on behalf of her former rival, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the Obama camp said Wednesday.

Clinton is scheduled to appear at a campaign rally beginning at 11 a.m. at Green Valley High School. The Obama campaign is using the event to jump start a voter registration drive over the weekend.

Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, lost the Nevada caucus to then-rival Clinton in January. After a protracted primary race ended in May, Clinton has made a number of recent public appearances stumping for Obama.

Rasmussen: Obama has edge on McCain in Nevada

A Rasmussen poll released Thursday shows the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), with a 2-point advantage over his Republican counterpart, U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

According to the poll
, 42 percent of respondents to a telephone survey said they favored Obama, while 40 percent expressed support for McCain.

McCain led in each of the last three polls conducted in Nevada, so while Obama's lead is slim, it does represent a step forward for his campaign in a state long considered solidly Republican.

NVDems make show of unity behind Obama

Barack Obama for president.: Politicker Photo.Democratic party leaders and elected officials declare their unified support of Ill. Sen. Barack Obama for president.: Politicker Photo.LAS VEGAS – Democratic party leaders and elected officials assembled in both Las Vegas and Reno today in a show of unity behind Ill. Sen. Barack Obama’s bid for the presidency.  In Las Vegas, an entire platoon of Democratic leaders assembled for a photo opportunity at the state party headquarters, headed by state Sen. Steven Horsford (D-Las Vegas), the leader of Obama’s Nevada campaign, and Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid, formerly head of N.Y. Sen. Hillary Clinton’s effort in the state.

Both Obama's and Clinton's campaigns struggled at every stage to secure Nevada's delegates to the Democratic National Convention. At times, particularly during a lawsuit to shut down at-large caucus sites on The Strip and following an aborted Clark County Convention, the rivalry brought accusations that many predicted would fester after the primaries.

Today's photo opportunity, held one day before Obama's first visit to Nevada since securing his party's nomination, was an attempt to allay those concerns.
