LAS VEGAS-Jon Ralston is reporting in his RalstonFlash that Republican Assemblyman Chad Christensen has informed party leaders that he will not seek reelection.
Christensen has represented Assembly District 13 for three terms and would be challenged this year by former congressional candidate Andrew Martin.
With Democrats only one seat away from a veto-proof majority in the assembly, Christensen's retirement would put Republicans in the unenviable position of trying to defend three open Republican seats while contesting the same number of open Democratic seats. Christensen's district, like most Clark County seats, has been trending Democratic and now faces a nearly 1,400-vote Democratic advantage in registration.
I got a call from my cousin Wally in Colorado last night right as I was in the middle of heating up my Hungry-Man dinner.

Ron Paul Assemblyman?
By waiting for the last minute to drop this bombshell, this jerk may have handed the Paultards a real shot at electing an assemblyman. The only Republican in the race right now is Michael Kurcab, a Ron Paul guy.
Way to go Chad! If they can't find someone to run by tomorrow, you may have the entire GOP establishment rooting for Andrew Martin.
Of course, Monica Moradkhan was asleep at the switch here. How do you not take action when one of your guys hasn't filed by the end of the first week - let alone day NINE.
Very interesting...
I'm not counting this as a done deal until close of business tomorrow...but that's just me.
Great News!
Well, it just goes to show you not all Republicans are stupid enough to fight a losing fight when they know they're out numbered and, at least Christensen is smart enough to walk away!
Kudos to Christensen - wonder if he will be changing his political party affiliation?
We can't say that much about Porter!
This is great news for all Democrats and everyone living in AD #13 and Andrew Martin!
Why would a Ron Paul
Why would a Ron Paul Republican be a bad thing? The disagreement within the party as it pertains to Ron Paul has more to do with national issues, not state or local issues. As a Ron Paul Republican Michael will have access to a legion of volunteers. This is a good thing for the GOP is it not? I met Michael. He seems like a great guy. Very honest. Sensible.
Thank you
Thank you, Jason, for the kind words.
Chad fooled us all. He filed
Chad fooled us all. He filed late today, just before the doors closed. One can only wonder what the poor boy was waiting for. Now he's got a primary to face as well as a formidable Democratic opponent in Andrew Martin.
Anyone know Kurcab?
Is he a normal and functional Ron Paul supporter or one of the handful of bizarre folks that support Paul for his stand on legalizing narcotics?
Does Kurcab support Dr. Paul for his positions on the war, naroctics legalization or constitutional discipline?
I know him pretty well
I believe in the individual right to protect life, liberty and property. Government's role should be a collective of that individual right. I do consider myself a "constitutional conservative." I do agree with Dr. Paul's stance on foreign policy, the economy, low taxes with low government spending and many other issues.
On a personal level, I am recently married and I work as an audio systems supervisor. I have been in the audio industry for over 10 years.
I am not sure if this makes me bizarre but I hope this answers some of your questions.
